Active ingredients:

Griseofulvin - 125 mg.

GRISEOFULVIN is an antifungal agent that is used to treat fungal infections of the skin and nails. It is produced by culture of some strains of the mold Penicillium Griseofulvum. It is an antimycotic agent active against various dermatomycetes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton). On entering the systemic circulation, griseofulvin binds to keratin in keratin precursor cells, thereby making them resistant to fungal infections. The medicine only reaches the site of action when hair or skin is replaced by the keratin-griseofulvin complex. Griseofulvin then enters the dermatophyte through energy dependent transport processes and binds to the fungal microtubules, interfering with, and inhibiting mitosis, and the deposition of fungal cell walls.

Indications

  • used for the treatment of fungal infections of the skin, scalp, hair or nails (Tinea barbae, Tinea capitis, Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris, Tinea pedis, Tinea unguium) where topical therapy is considered inappropriate, or the infection has proven refractory to topical therapy.
