GENTASEPT is a topical long acting antibiotic composition, which contains the aminoglycoside Gentamicin Sulphate, silicon sorbent polymethylsiloxane, and Zinc and L-Tryptophan coordination compound. Gentamycin Sulphate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It has a bactericidal action and is active against a wide range of gram-positive microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Mycobacterium app., and gram-negative microorganisms, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aerobacter aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Citrobacter spp., Providenta spp., Yerinia spp. Polydimethylsiloxane has sorption and detoxification properties and together with Zinc and L-Tryptophan demonstrate the antibacterial activity and maintain therapeutic antimicrobial concentrations in wounds for 8 days, which prevents purulent and septic complications of wound. Additionally, GENTASEPT has sorption and anti-oedema action, stimulates granulation of tissue and prevents the formation of keloid scars. While treating burns it reduces local inflammation, prevents damage of tissue and accelerates wound closure by increasing the formation of new epithelium (skin). It also led to reduced scarring. It effectively dries the wound. In addition it prevents the bandage from sticking to the wound and, thus, reduces pain when it is removed. Treatment of wounds infected with pathogens susceptible to the medicine.
